Description:
This is a shipboard helmet that has retained 80-85% of the original pale gray painted finish that has flaked to the underlying plum-brown metal on the balance. The front of the helmet has a stenciled storage marking in mixed yellow and black: "REP 1"; indicating that the helmet was to be kept in Repair Locker 1 aboard ship when not in use. The fiber liner is in fine condition and fits a size 7 1/2 & 7 5/8 head. Someone has added some hand-drawn embellishments to the exterior, including: parallel waves above and below the "REP 1" at the front of the crown; a stylized creature face on the left side just above the neck flare; and a small dark circle with the words "PANICK(sic) / BUTTON" on the right. This is a neat Vietnam era USN helmet, and is in very good condition overall.;
