LOWER Antique FRONTIER DERRINGER Pistol .44 Percussion Henry Deringer’s ICONIC Pistol Made in CO TERRITORY Here we present an antique J.P. Lower Marked Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Percussion Pocket Pistol, made circa the early 1860s. The name “Deringer” often invokes certain historical event, characters or moments in film. Deringer’s name has become both a noun and a catch-all term. They conjure images of the California Gold Rush, tumbleweeds, as well as riverboat gamblers. These pistols were very practical for the time, being small and concealable and of large bore size. John Pray Lower was a famed Denver, Colorado gunsmith, dealer, and entrepreneur. He was born in 1833 in Philadelphia where he learned his craft from J.C. Grubb. He would soon turn to the Western Frontier and do business with Carlos Gove before setting up his own shop in 1872, buying out the Freund brothers, who were famous for their Sharps conversions. He would sell a great variety of guns to a great variety of people good, bad, and otherwise. He fought Indians and killed buffalo. He saw the American Frontier as it was still forming and saw Denver grow immensely. He passed away in 1917. The overall condition is good. Original and even dark brown barrel patina. Strong action. Good bore for its age. The wood remains good with light handling wear. A small stable repair has been made to the underside of the forend. Crisply engraved. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2 inches. Caliber: .44 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
