Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1929, .32WS, 6lbs. 15oz., LOP 13 1/4" Serial Number: 11203 Vintage Firearms Inc is pleased to offer this 1929 Winchester Model 55, serial number 11203. The Winchester 55 is a lightened sporter version of the Model 1894, the 24” barrel was introduced to fill the gap between the Model 94 carbine with its 20” barrel and the 26” barreled rifle version. It was introduced in 1924 and discontinued in 1935. Total production is estimated to be 20,580 rifles. The Model 55 was initially offered in Take Down only but was offered in solid frame form in1931. This Model 55 features a 24” fast tapper lightweight barrel with a half magazine holding 3 rounds, the barrel shows 95% factory blue pleasantly ageing, the bore is a shiny 9.5 out of 10 with crisp rifling, while the serial number dates this rifle to 1929 the barrel is dated 1927. This example has a small amount of factory bluing remaining on the receiver and tang with the majority having gone to a silver and patina finish, the screws are excellent. The furniture shows some field marks; it has excellent grain and excellent wood to metal fit the stock is fitted with a shotgun metal buttplate. Over seven and a half million Model 94’s have been manufactured but only 20,580 examples of this rifle were made- so while everyone else seems to have a 94 this Model 55 would certainly be the standout.
