Description:
This very fine Colt Model 1855 percussion revolver is .31 caliber with a 4 1/2 inch round barrel with a bright bore with some very light oxidation and crisp rifling. Manufactured in 1861 and is the model 5A variation of the Root revolver.  It features the fully fluted cylinder.  It has a brass post front sight on the two stage barrel which is marked "ADDRESS COL. COLT/NEW YORK USA" on the top of the breech.  The Patent Date marked on the fluted cylinder, matching serial numbers on the bottom of the barrel and butt.  It has the frame-top grove rear sight and a varnished walnut one piece grip.  It includes a hardwood case, attractive peacock flask, ball and bullet mold, cap tin, ramrod/cleaning rod, combination tool, and key. It is in fine condition and retains 60% plus of the bright, original blue finish with some minor handling/high spot wear/flaking, primarily on the cylinder, recoil shield, and back strap, showing mostly a gray patina.  There is a small patch of very light pitting on the right side of the barrel.   The grip is also fine with some minor dings and a small edge chip.  Mechanically excellent.  The case is very good with some minor handling/storage marks.  On the bottom of the case it is inscribed "Basil Wagner from Richard D. Fisher,  June 20, 1861".  One of the rarer Colt revolvers and not seen that often. Would be a valued addition to any collection.
