Description: This medium frame, double-action, six-shot, under-hammer, revolving percussion pepperbox was sold by the firm of Orison Blunt and John G. Syms in New York City in the 1830-1850 period. It is estimated that only a few thousand of these were produced in various configurations, with the majority lacking marks. The barrel cluster is of a ribbed/shallow fluted design. The frame and back strap feature floral and scroll engraving. It is fitted with an under-hammer with flash shield, ring trigger, and smooth walnut bag shaped grips. The top of the frame is marked "BLUNT & SYMS / NEW YORK". There are no other visible markings on the gun. It is believed to be .31 caliber. The barrel cluster has a dark, silver-gray patina with scattered, flash pitting on the barrels and percussion nipples. The frame and trigger have a gray patina. The scroll and floral engraving and "BLUNT & SYMS" markings are worn but visible. This is a good example of a "BLUNT & SYMS" marked pepperbox. Mechanically fine.
