Description:
"NSN Visible. Made circa 1873 –1876. 45 LC caliber with a 7.5" barrel. This is a relic Colt Single Action Army that is still loaded. There is an empty chamber on the hammer. The loading gate still works and this has an inside primed cartridges in the cylinder which is correct for the period. This is a very neat historical gun found between the Rosebud and the Little Big Horn Battlefields.  The US on the left hand side of the frame is still visible. This gun was found in 1997 by Walter Bales who was a Ranch hand on the land where this gun was found. He saw the barrel sticking out from the ground and decided to find out what it was. Accompanying this gun is a letter from his granddaughter telling the story and also from Mr. Bale’s Wife. His wife’s letter is more detailed and contains a hand drawn map and story of how Mr. Bales came to find this gun. It also has a picture of the hill he found this gun on.  One has to wonder what transpired for a fully loaded Colt Cavalry model to be dropped and forgotten in such an isolated place. Finally this gun comes with a letter from noted Colt Single Action expert John Kopec and his notes from examining this gun. Unfortunately there was no way to do a full authentication of this gun due to the condition.
