You are looking at a high condition custom rifle built by William Sukalle. Mr. Sukalle was born in Illinois in 1893, and he moved to Phoenix with his family when he was young. He was trained as an automobile machinist, but his passion for high power rifle competition led him to switch from that to rifle making. The earliest mention of him as a gun maker that I have seen is dated 1931. It seems that the first rifles he made were chambered in .257 Roberts. This rifle has a Mauser action and a 24” barrel and a 14” length of pull. The barrel is marked, W.A. SUKALLE-GUNMAKER-PHOENIX-AZ. It has a double-set trigger, I believe, of Mr. Sukalle’s design.
