You are looking at a high condition custom rifle built by Doug Raebel, Berlin, WI. A life long gun guy, when Doug retired from the phone company, he turned his hobby into a home-based business of stock repairing, stock making, and gun making. He named his operation THE STOCK DOC. In the 1960s, Doug built 2 almost identical rifles. This is the one he built for his younger brother, Bruce. Bruce was blinded in his right eye right after being delivered. Since Bruce was right handed, Doug built this rifle to be shouldered on the left for the use of Bruce’s left eye but operated in the usual right handed fashion. This will pose no problem for a right handed shooter; he or she will just nor have a cheek piece! Chambered in 7mm / 7x 57, this rifle has a commercial Mauser type action, a 24” barrel, a 13 3/4 length of pull, and wears a Redfield 3X-9X 1” Tube scope.
The pictures accurately portray the excellent original condition of this fine firearm. It looks like it never left the house! I met Doug in the mid-1990s when I still lived in Wisconsin. I was in my mid 50s; Doug was well into his 80s, and Bruce was in a nursing home. That’s why Doug decided it should be my turn to own this gorgeous rifle. I am not a shooter; I am a collector who has been proud to own a gun built by my pal, Doug. Now that I’m in my mid 80s, it’s time for Bruce’s gun to have a new custodian.
