FIRST INDOCHINA WAR “Self-Cocking” Pistol
Here we present a C&R French Occupation German Mauser HSc Semi-Automatic Pistol made circa 1945-46 in Oberndorf, Germany. This example is marked “R/W” on the trigger guard with the barrel having the “Crown/N” proof on the barrel. This “R/W” was placed on these pistols during the French Occupation of the Mauser factory in Oberndorf and stands for “Werke Revision”. This alternative acceptance mark was used when the collapse of the Third Reich made the Eagle/N unavailable. Most of these pistols were destined for French forces fighting in the First Indochina War. Production of high-quality commercial pistols resumed at the Mauser factory in Oberndorf from 1968 to 1977.
It has a sleek design that is quite small but provides a nice full grip. The take down is very simple and clever, with the latch hidden inside the front of the trigger guard. The left side of the slide bears the “MAUSER” makers mark as well as “MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF a.N./MOD. HSc KAL 7.65mm”.
The overall condition is nearing fine. Most of the original finish has been preserved. Excellent action. Immaculate, bright bore with sharp filing. Markings are sharp. Both grips are solid with less than average handling wear. Unnumbered slide.
