My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles Description: This is a Model 1916 Newton rifle in caliber .30 Newton. It is numbered 3671 in 7 places and the grip cap and butt plate are numbered 3916. These mixed numbered rifles were probably produced by the Receiver or Newton Arms Corporation after Charles Newton left the company and it went into receivership. The wood shows light scratches from handling and has a 1.5 inch tapered piece of wood missing ahead of the bolt handle. The checkering is sharp. The barrel retains about 95-98% bluing, the receiver about 90-95%, and the trigger guard and floor plate about 90%. The front and rear sight are original. The double set trigger is crisp. The bore is very good. The rear sight base has been bedded into the stock. There are repaired cracks in the stock in front of the magazine, and to the front and rear of the magazine. It is common for these higher powered Newton rifles to have cracked stocks. These were relatively heavy recoil calibers in a light stock and also the takedown feature with the floor plate as the lever to tighten the action in the stock needed to be adjusted properly. This rifle is pictured in The Newton Rifle, Second Edition on page 105, center rifle. It is also pictured in The Newton Rifle Handbook on page 44, 3rd rifle from the top of the page.
