BIG BORE London SUPERPOSED Double Barrel BELT Pistol
Here we present an antique Engraved Brooks & Son Superposed Over/Under Percussion Double Barrel “Manstopper” Belt Pistol made circa the mid-1800s in London, England. Edward Brooks & Son were active gunmakers working out of London in the mid-19th century. The frame sides and top are scroll engraved with simple line bordering. There is a belt hook attached to the left side of the frame along with double triggers, one for each barrel.
From the time that firearms were introduced, gunsmiths had experimented with various ways to turn those single shot weapons into multi-shot weapons. Prior to the use of “repeating” arms, one of the most successful systems was to use multiple barrels, each with their own load and charge.
The overall condition is very good. Original, deep brown patina. Excellent action. The bores are in good shape for their ages, remaining smooth and have darkened. Sharp engravings. Markings are legible. Solid wood with an expected amount of handling, with calculable checkering. Here is a wonderful piece that stands out and you can’t look past!

Barrels are 4-3/4 inches.
