.38 HAND EJECTOR M&P DOUBLE ACTION Revolver
Here we present a C&R Smith & Wesson .38 Hand Ejector Military & Police 1st Model Double Action Revolver manufactured early in its three year production run between 1899 and 1902 in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1899, the United States Army and Navy placed an order with Smith & Wesson for two to three thousand Model 1899 Hand Ejector revolvers chambered for the .38 Long Colt U.S. Service Cartridge. With this order, the Hand Ejector Model became known as the .38 Military and Police model.
This example is the commercial model. It was an early “swing out” cylinder revolver with no front lockup for action. It was chambered for the new .38 S&W Special cartridge and featured a 6-shot fluted cylinder. As mentioned above, it was manufactured between 1899 and 1902 with a serial number range between 1 and 20,975. These revolvers have survived the test of time!
The overall condition is very good. Original brown patina with traces of original blue. Excellent action. The bore is mostly bright with serviceable rifling and evidence of a deep cleaning. Both grips are good, containing an average amount of wear and a repaired chip on the right butt. Markings are legible.
