There’s a certain kind of magic in the Winchester 1892—a magic that ties together the grit of the American frontier, the genius of John Moses Browning, and the enduring romance of the lever-action rifle. This modern-built Deluxe Takedown Model 1892 carries that legacy forward with reverence and authenticity, made all the more compelling by its full refinish by Turnbull Restoration in 2012.
Originally produced in 2009, this rifle was brought to life again by the same artisans who handle the 19th-century originals—those storied Winchesters that rode in scabbards across the West. Starting out the 92’s John Browning reversion is our tang safety conversion process, taking this example back to a half-cock safety as it was originally designed over a century ago. The receiver, lever, hammer, forend cap, and crescent buttplate all wear a bone charcoal color case hardened finish, true to the era. The barrel and magazine tube were rust blued the traditional way—slowly, by hand, with patient craftsmanship few still practice. The wood, finished in a hand-rubbed oil and stained in classic Winchester red, rounds out a striking build.
Chambered in .32-20 Winchester, this takedown rifle wears a 24-inch barrel—perfect for those who appreciate the mild recoil and historical accuracy of the cartridge once favored by small game hunters and settlers alike. The action is smooth and crisp, exactly what you’d expect from a platform refined over 130 years and further enhanced by expert hands.
This Deluxe Takedown remains in very good condition overall. The metal shows only minor storage marks, and the wood bears a few honest dings from over a decade of careful use.

A handsome takedown case from Jeff’s Outfitters, built from wood and canvas with leather trim and a combination lock, makes for easy transport and proud display. A Lyman 2A tang sight with dual discs and a Lyman 17A front globe sight with inserts offer improved sighting options, along with a spare dovetail ivory bead front sight. Also included: a batch of unfired brass cases, 90 grain bullets, and an RCBS die set—everything you need to bring this .32-20 back to the range, or simply keep it as a jewel in your collection.
