Description:
Serial #61690, .36 Caliber, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has some areas of pitting along its length. This is an 1856-made revolver that has all-matching numbers, including the wedge, lever, and cylinder arbor. This is one of 718 revolvers shipped to the New York Navy and was inspection by Cdr. Stephan C. Rowen, one of 2 officers in charge of inspecting this group. The metal on this revolver has an overall mottled pewter gray patina, with some scattered areas of plum-brown freckling, mostly towards the breech end of the barrel, as well as some minor impact marks around the wedge on both sides. Traces of original color case-hardening can still be seen on the protected portion of the loading lever, and on the rear portion of the frame on both sides. A small "US" stamp is present on the left side of the frame indicative of US Navy purchase, and the cylinder . The walnut grip has minor handling marks in the military oil finish, and the "I / S*C*R" inspector stamp on the right side of the butt is still crisp and clear. Likewise, the "U*S*N." stamp on the metal strap is also clear. The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly. This is a very good-fine example of a scarce ‘51 "Navy & Navy," and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique;
