Description:
SCARCE Antique REMINGTON SMOOT New Model No. 2 .32 RF Revolver NICKEL PLATE

One of Only 3,000 SELF DEFENSE POCKET Revolvers

Here we present an antique nickel-plated Remington-Smoot New Model No. 2 Pocket Revolver, made circa 1877 in Ilion, New York. William Sydney Smoot was an inventor in America who received more than a dozen firearms patents. Smoot was born in 1845 in Norfolk, Virginia. During the Civil War, he was a lieutenant in the First Maryland Infantry as part of the Union. He spent the end of the war as an ordnance officer at Springfield Armory. He resigned from the military in 1870 and began work at Remington the following year.

Only about 3,000 of these are estimated to have been produced during its production run from 1877 through 1885, making this one quite scarce. This revolver was designed with the armed public in mind, being pocket-sized and holding 5 shots with the bulk of production being chambered in .32 rimfire, as this one is. This revolver was part of a line of small handguns that was contemporaneous with Colt’s “New Line” revolver. Both these companies made a quality revolver, but quality costs.

The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish. Strong action. On this example the ejector rod spring has lost tension, causing it to intermittently slide into a cylinder creating interference. Dim bore with serviceable rifling. Markings are legible. Both grips are good with an average amount of wear.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-3/4 inches.

Caliber: .32 Rimfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
