Teddy Roosevelt called his 1895 his "lion medicine" when hunting in Africa, and had his Rough Riders carrying them on horseback. With the vertical box magazines, these were lever guns were able to safely carry spitzer bullets allowing the rifles to be chambered in many "high performance" cartridges.
