This is a ca. 1957-made rifle with a 1956 dated, "NM" marked barrel and all "SA" parts (these early National Match Garands were only marked as such on the side of the barrel just behind the front sight.) The metal retains 98-99% of the original parkerized finish, with some trace silvering at the muzzle, and further silvering on the bearing surfaces of the bolt. The rifle has a beautiful walnut stock and handguard set, with crisp DoD Eagle on the left side of the wrist, and clear "P" (in circle) proof on the inside surface of the grip. Only a few very minor handling marks are present in the otherwise excellent military oil finish. The stock compartment contains both a segmented GI cleaning rod with handle, and a clear plastic oiler. Additionally, an M1907 type leather target sling in almost unused condition is installed. This is a fantastic, early National Match Garand, and is in excellent, almost unused condition. The throat measures approximately 2 and the muzzle measures approximately 1 (see photos).
