Fantastic 1 of 1,500 Spur Triggers Manufactured
Here we present an antique Ethan Allen & Co. Sidehammer Revolver, made circa 1858-1863 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Ethan Allen & Co. was composed of Allen and his two sons-in-law Sullivan Forehand and Henry Wadsworth who reorganized the company as Forehand & Wadsworth upon Allen's death in 1871. There were 8 different variants of this revolver and approximately 1,500 total made of these little .22 Rimfire Sidehammers between 1858-1863, making this a very scarce little revolver.
It is likely that production of the first models started as early as 1858 and continued until November 1863, when production of all cartridge revolvers was forced to stop due to a lawsuit filed by Smith & Wesson for violation of the Rollin White Patent. Production resumed in 1869 after the expiration of the S&W patent. After Allen’s death in 1871, production continued for some time under the new company name Forehand and Wadsworth.
The overall condition is fine. Bright, original nickel finish. Excellent action. The bore has darkened with serviceable rifling remaining. Fine grips. Markings are legible. Although small, this fine little revolver will make a big impact on any collection! So, here’s your chance to own an example of an exceedingly scarce Ethan Allen & Company Sidehammer Revolver!
