Description:
FABBRI Best Sidelock Ejector O/U, 12 ga., 2 ¾”,  28" bls, ST, 98% condition, with orig.case

Fabbri, located in Nave, Brescia, Italy built this best sidelock ejector (SLE) in 12 gauge, 2 ¾” chambers, with 28” bls, and single trigger, in 1969. The exact gun is featured in a 40-minute video at rogerrule, on Youtube, Special Guns with Roger Rule, Episode 38.

The 28” demi-bloc ejector barrels are Bohler Super Blitz Steel, fitted with a tapered matted ventilated top rib, with solid side ribs, and a steel bead front sight. The bottom barrel is choked Modified and the top barrel Full. .

This back-action sidelock ejector action includes bright cocking indicators on both lockplates, a single inertia trigger that is protected by an engraved blued trigger guard extending to a long engraved bottom tang with serial number.  Both sides of the engraved top lever thumbpiece are checkered. On the top tang ahead of the engraved and checkered manual slide safety is engraved 'SICURA', Italian for safe.

The stock is made of Turkish Circassian walnut in the English style with traditional straight-hand grip and game-style forend with engraved blue fittings and an Anson push button release. The wood of the stock and forend match extremely well, probably cut from the same blank. The wood is the rare rich cordovan color with black mineral streaks, a perfect selection for the conservative style and engraving. It is rare find in Turkish walnut and highly sought-after.

Inscriptions: The right side of the top barrel is marked BOHLER SUPER BLITZ STEEL and on the left barrel, ARMI FABBR BRESCIA.

Engraving: The coin finished action is adorned with beautifully cut bold foliate scrolls with stippled ground by a famous master Italian engraver. There is also light engraving at the breech and chambers. The underside of the action body is engraved 'ARMI - FABBRI' and 'BRESCIA' in banners. The tedious and immaculately-cut engraving is by the renowned Italian Master Engraver Ferrruccio Iora and signed on the trigger plate "F. IORA Inc."

About the engraver: Ferruccio Iora was born in Brescia, Italy in 1924. In the book, The Best Guns, by Marco Nobili, Feruccio Iora is listed as one of a best Italian master engravers and is printed in the list between Gianfranco Pedersoli and Fausto Galeazzi , two listed in the book, The Italian Gun, as super star Italian master engravers.

The Inc. after Iora's name is the abbreviation for incisore, which translates to engraver in Italian. His engraving often included game scenes and gold inlays, but for the subject Fabbri, note the detail of his scrolls with the stippling used to darken the backgrounds and accent the scrolls.  Only a master can do this right; this engraving style while not as interesting as game-scene engraving, is highly regarded by other engravers as being one of the hardest to do, to do it right.
