Near Mint Pre-War Colt Official Police .38 Revolver C. 1931 With Factory Letter
Offered here for sale is a newly acquired outstanding example of a pre-war Colt Official Police .38 revolver. Serial number 556557 it has a 6" barrel and retains all of its original finish. It has mint bore and very sharp markings to go along with its original factory medallion checkered grips which appear near mint as well. The specimen has only the slightest hint of a cylinder turn mark and looking at the face of the cylinder may have had only a few rounds put through it. In fact, with a slight soft cloth polishing the face should appear almost unfired. The specimen was manufactured circa 1931 and comes with its original factory letter denoting it date of manufacture. Aside from some dried oil and peach fuzz in places the revolver is approximately 99% plus condition. Very difficult to obtain a better specimen especially in this condition of a Colt almost 100 years old. a superb pre-War Colt Office Police .38 revolver with serial number 556557. The specimen is .38 Special caliber with a 6 inch barrel. It is Colt’s “D” frame with original factory bluing, remarkably preserved. Original factory checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions, near mint.Near-pristine (approx. 99%+) with virtually all original finish with deep, lustrous blue. Mint bore, crisp rifling, no corrosion or signs of wear. Razor-sharp legends and roll stamps.Grips with no chips or cracks, strong checkering, medallions untouched. Light signs of storage oil residue and “peach fuzz,” indicating long-term preservation, not hard use.
This 1931 Colt Police Positive Special is a textbook example of what advanced collectors seek: untouched originality, extraordinary condition, and documented provenance with factory letter. Whether kept in a private collection, featured in a display, or as an investment piece, it is a nearly unbeatablfinee representation of Colt’s quality from the pre-WWII era.
