This is a super nice early Military Colt 1911, made in 1914 and issued to a Lt. Col F. M. Jones of US Air Service(predecessor of US Air Force) of American Expeditionary Force(A. E. P.). The gun is in fantastic condition with over 95% of its original high polish blue with sime holster wear and some thinning on the front grip strap and a bit less thinning on the rear. It is all correct with all the early features, including a "horizontal H P " marked barrel. The gun came with the holster stamped with the name and rank of the owner and Air Service of A.E.P. Further research yielded more information on Lt. Colonel F.M. Jones, of 5th Air Corps, stationed in France during WWI. The above paperwork is included. Excellent condition grips. Bore with pronounced rifling and dulling in the grooves.
It is almost impossible to find a military 1911 Colt issued to a particular officer in WWI without having their name engraved on the gun. In this case we are lucky to have the holster that links this gun to its original owner without having a post -factory alteration to the gun.
A great example for an early Colt and US Air Force collectors.
