Description:
For sale is a super nice and hard to find AYA #1. This sleek 20-bore features a Holland & Holland style sidelock ejector action. The action is well shaped and profiled with beaded fences and is adorned with fine, Purdey-style rose and scroll engraving hand cut to the highest standard. Other notable features include hand-detachable sidelocks, disc set strikers, gold-lined cocking indicators, non-auto safety (with “SAFE” in gold), and a rolled trigger guard. The 28" barrels are beautifully struck, are choked IC/MOD, and have 2 3/4” chambers. They're topped with a concave game rib and are balanced by a highly figured walnut stock (upgraded from standard grade walnut). The color and figure is absolutely fantastic! The stock is classically configured: straight grip, splinter forend, fine hand-cut checkering, drop points, and a checkered butt. It has great stock dimensions for many with a long length of pull (15”). At 6 1/4 lbs pounds, it handles beautifully and would make for a classic game gun!
It is also in great condition. The barrel bluing shows some wear on the edges from many years of being carried in a case. There only slight wear to the case coloring on the bottom of the action but remains nearly perfect elsewhere. The bores are clean, and barrel walls are free from dents. The stock has sharp checkering and edges, intact original hand-rubbed oil finish, and is sound with no cracks. As you would expect, the gun functions perfectly. The lock up is rock solid, the trigger pulls are nice and crisp, and ejectors are strong and in time. This gun has seen relatively little use afield and is ready to provide a lifetime of reliable service to it new owner.
A small bore Spanish “best” like this is hard to find. Current retail on a new AYA No. 1 sidelock is $24,850 so this is great buy and opportunity that doesn't come around often!
