Description:
Winchester First Year Production Model 62 (Not 62A), mfg 1932, #60xx. This rifle exhibits all seven of the features of the 1st issue 62's: checkered steel butt plate; high comb butt stock; roll stamped tang; knurled hammer; small slide handle; collar on the mag tube end; and flat muzzle. The receiver of this fine example retains 95+% of the original factory blue showing some function wear, but almost no carry point wear. The ends of both the upper and lower tangs have flaked. Because the barrel proof mark is very slightly soft, I suspect it may have been professionally reblued long ago, but all markings remain factory crisp and clear, so it's a toss up. The mag tube retains 95% of what appears to be original blue. The butt stock retains 97% of the original finish showing a very few handling marks. The foreend shows no typical signs of a refinish, but is so good I will represent it as such.The bore and mechanics are near excellent. Shipping and insurance $65.
This is a rare bird indeed, and though it may have been partially refinished, remains a very desireable and sought after Winchester.
