Colt DA 38, US ARMY model1901
S/N 178975
Caliber: 38 long colt
Approx mfr year: 1901
Re-manufactured by Remington UMC Arms for use/issue in WWI, a Lanyard loop was installed as part of this process
Many markings are on this gun some of which are:
LEB Leroy E Briggs, Army Captain who was responsible for inspection of these repurposed revolvers for the War dept. (now the Department of Defense)
RAC Rinaldo A Carr, civilian employee for the War dept. He was a sub inspector for repurposed revolvers for the war effort
1902 on left side plate behind the trigger guard, most likely the year it was inspected by Colt. It was probably made late in the year and inspected early in 1902
Other markings (JTT) and many more secrets to be unlocked await the next owner!
Grip panel cracked but was re-attached sometime in the past, scratches dings and pitting are all present and it was cleaned sometime ago. The gun cycles but hammer does not cock back on its own and the gun should not be fired until serviced by a qualified gunsmith.
