Based on the serial number "C9640339M" of this Remington Model 870 12 GA Special Purpose Magnum shotgun, it was manufactured in 1997. The "C" prefix indicates production in 1997, and the "M" suffix denotes a 12-gauge Magnum chambering, capable of handling 3-inch shells .
Introduced in 1985, the Model 870 Special Purpose (SP) Magnum was designed for waterfowling and turkey hunting. This features a satin-finished metal surface and black composite stock.
