Description: The SIG AMT (American Match Target) was developed as a semi-automatic commercial rifle designed to meet the growing American civilian market demand for precision rifles in the late 1960s. This is a Swiss SIG AMT semi-automatic rifle, serial number 16171, chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Winchester), representing one of approximately 3,000-4,000 examples imported into the United States between 1969 and the early 1980s, this example imported by Benet Arms. The receiver displays the characteristic roller-delayed blowback operating system derived from German wartime development, with the distinctive "T"-shaped charging handle positioned on the right side of the receiver. The left side of the receiver shows various SIG proof marks and manufacturing codes, while the right side features the ejection port without a dust cover, allowing for reliable brass ejection. The rifle is equipped with original Swiss military-style iron sights consisting of a winged post front sight and an adjustable tangent peep rear sight graduated to 600 meters. The ventilated steel barrel shroud houses the 19.7-inch barrel and incorporates mounting points for the integrated swiveling bipod at the forward position. The distinctive birch wood furniture includes a full-length forend and buttstock with the characteristic ribbed steel buttplate, while the hollow black plastic pistol grip features a removable end cap for storing the tritium night sight insert and cleaning accessories. The rifle accepts 20-round detachable box magazines and features SIG's renowned Swiss precision manufacturing quality throughout all components, making it one of the most sought-after and expensive military-style rifles in the American collector market due to its extremely limited importation numbers and exceptional build quality.
