Why did Colt decide to put ugly Houge molded rubber cushioned grips on a beautiful 36 oz. .22 revolver had to be done for cost savings rather than to reduce the viscous .22 recoil.
WHY AM I SELLING IT?
A very close friend who was there for me when I needed him expressed an interest in getting a .22 revolver for target practice and plinking. He has only one other gun, a Colt Diamondback .38, and I suggested the King Cobra would be a great companion piece. I decided I would buy him one for his birthday.
I came across an online out-of-state Cabella's ad for $749.99. Cabellas told me that they had purchased a 100-gun lot from Colt of King Cobras .22s that were used as display models at gun shows to introduce the model. They were shown but never fired, thus, they were considered NEW/OLD STOCK. So I bought it. With sales tax and the rosewood grips, I have $805.00 in the gun.
My friend bought himself a birthday present, a new King Cobra, online through Gun and spent a total of $1095 for one with ugly grips. HIS LOSS, YOUR GAIN.
Stainless steel revolvers are not my thing. I collect and shoot vintage pre-World War II Colt Officers Match revolvers.
