Interestingly, the hammer is a left over U.S. government "KSM" inspected one. When the U.S. contract for these ended there were apparently some left over inspected parts that made their way to commercial 1895s. I've seen this a number of times in rifles and carbines made in 1899. This example shows fine blue on the receiver and magazine with mainly blue missing on the more exposed edges, exc. blue on the bolt. It is fitted with a Lyman 21 long receiver sight, blank filler in the rear barrel dovetail and a copper blade front sight. The 28" barrel retains most of the original blue, stock and forend are fine with only some normal handling marks and tight wood to metal fit. The forend has the correct ebony wedge inlay in the tip. Exc. markings, tight action, strong safety half-cock, bore shows strong rifling and is only a bit dark. Overall a really handsome example.
