Description:
NSN, .577 Snider, 36 1/2" barrel with a dark, evenly pitted bore. This rifle was originally built as a Pattern 1853 rifle-musket by Enfield in 1862, and converted to breech-loading by BSA Co. The barrel has an overall dark plum-brown patina with speckled gray towards the breech, and a mottled plum-brown patina on the receiver, breechblock, and lock. The markings are all clear and legible, with some scattered areas of mild freckling and pinprick pitting scattered about as well. The walnut stock is in fine shape, with an old arsenal refinish that has left the "(Broad Arrow) / WD" Enfield stamp at the butt clear and fully legible. Only minor handling marks and surface blemishes are present throughout the added varnish. The brass furniture has a mellow ochre patina throughout, and the rear sling swivel is no longer present. Mechanically, the action is fully functional, and locks firmly at half and full-cock. An incorrect metal ramrod is also included. This is an attractive Snider three-band rifle, and is in about good condition overall. Antique;
