For sale is a Remington 700 in a HS Precision Stock that was re barreled from a 350 Remington Magnum to a 358 Winchester Short Magnum - 358 WSM 1.8". Penrod Precision of North Manchester, Indiana did the work for me in 2013. Back in those days, Indiana had some stupid regulations concerning legal rifle cartridges for white tail deer. It started out as a complete ban on all rifles other than black powder then they gradually opened things up starting with a minimum bore diameter combined with a minimum and maximum case length. That was revised a couple of years later which increased the maximum case length to 1.8". The states intent was to legalize a family of straight wall handgun calibers that wouldn't have the carry of more powerful bottleneck rifle calibers. Enter the 358 WSM 1.8". Simply a necked up 325 WSM to 35 caliber. This caliber is much more than a white tail deer round. It offers pretty impressive ballistics and is easily capable of taking big game. Mr. Penrod installed a Lilja Stainless barrel with a 1:12 twist. It is 24" long. He also tuned the rifle including work on the trigger, box and follower, the bolt face, and bolt rail. All work is shown on the invoice which I will include with the rifle. Mr. Penrod also provided me with a couple of loads and that will be included as well. Shooting the Barnes 200gr TTSX bullet yielded 1/2 MOA groups at 200 yards. You can see pictures of 2 of those groups which are 3 shot groups measuring 1" CTC at a measured 200 yards. Chronographing 10 shots yielded an average of 2888 FPS. Bolt lift was easy and there were no signs of excessive pressure. Deer season was opening soon so I didn't pursue working that load up to 3000 FPS although I believe that can be safely done. The scope is a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14X40 Long Range with Side Focus with a 30mm tube finished in Gloss and was made in 2010. The Leupold product code is 66395 and the box shown in the photos is the correct box for the scope as the printed serial number on the box matches the one on the scope. Leupold bases and rings mount the scope. Both rifle and scope are in pristine condition. Redding Custom Dies, 50 pieces of fire-formed brass, 47 pieces of fired and loaded ammunition, Barnes TTSX and Nosler bullets are all included. Everything shown in photos is included.
