Ruger revolvers are known for their extremely robust frame designs, with the original GP100 considered to be the strongest revolver design when it was released, thanks to its overbuilt construction and triple-locked frame. Ruger continues its reputation with their large-bore Redhawk and Super Redhawk series of revolvers. This revolver is a Super Redhawk chambered in .480 Ruger—a large-bore cartridge designed to fire a .475 caliber projectile with lower pressures than some of the other big-bore cartridges popular for big-game handgun hunting, such as .454 Casull. The .480 Ruger was designed specifically for the Super Redhawk revolver and offers similar (and sometimes exceeding) .454 Casull's TKO value, thanks to its larger and heavier bullet, while having much less recoil and muzzle blast with the lower cartridge pressure. This Super Redhawk is a 2001 production piece, the first run of the .480 Ruger Super Redhawks. The revolver is finished in a satin "Target Grey" color scheme and fitted with a rubber Hogue Tame grip. The Super Redhawk has a double/single-action trigger and a 6-round cylinder. It also does utilize a transfer bar safety mechanism to help prevent accidental discharges. The 7 ½" cold hammer-forged barrel is aimed with an adjustable rear sight and textured front ramp sight with red insert. The revolver also is set up to accept Ruger scope rings, sold separately.
