Payment Types Accepted: Description: For sale is a Sig Sauer P229 chambered in 9mm Parabellum (also known as 9mm Luger or NATO). The pistol is an aluminum alloy-framed double-action/single-action hammer-fired pistol and holds 15 rounds in the magazine. The Model P229 was originally designed in the early 1990s when law enforcement agencies in the US were looking for duty pistols with more capacity than 1911s and power than the issued .38 Specials and 9mms of the time. While Smith & Wesson and Colt offered options in 10mm Auto, the caliber proved to be unlikable, leading to the development of .40 S&W, unveiled in the Glock 23 (an interesting story itself) and later the third generation Smith & Wessons. Sig Sauer in Germany would bring the P229 to market in 1992 chambered in .40 S&W and their own new caliber, .357 Sig—a high-velocity cartridge created by necking the longer 10mm casing down to 9mm. The P229 was not just a rechambered version of their other P-series pistols, but rather an entirely new slide design meant to take the increased pressures and recoil impulse of the hotter cartridges in question; the stamped sheet metal slides on the existing P220, P225, P226, and P228 pistols would not withstand the beatings. So, the P229 featured a machined steel slide with additional reinforcing bands and redesigned extractor, making for a noticeably more dense and wider slide compared to its older brothers. 1994 saw the P229 chambered in 9mm with the lighter P228 frames and lighter (but same width) slides. In 2009, with manufacturing now in the United States, the P229 was redesigned with long extractors, 9mm models removed the extra slide-strengthening material to slim and lighten the slide, slide serrations were extended, and the same frames were used for all calibers available. These newer P229s are sometimes called P229-1s by Sig Sauer collectors and aficionados. This P229 is one of these later US-made models with the lighter slide and underbarrel accessory rail. The pistol is fitted with stock polymer wraparound grips. The pistol does feature a decocker and 3-dot tritium night sights with white outlines. The gun is in very good condition with limited wear on the slide and barrel and very good bore/rifling condition. The pistol includes one 15-round magazine, but no box or case. 9mm Parabellum Price: $1,399.99 Chambers: 9mm Parabellum (AKA 9mm Luger/NATO) Metal Condition: Excellent Bore Condition: Excellent Barrels: 3 3/4 Triggers: Double-action/Single-action Weight: 1 LB 13 OZ Sights: Night sights (3-dot white with tritium inserts) Item Location: Kearney, NE |
