Even though the basic blueprint of the AR-18/AR-180 platform has been around for decades and implemented in famous firearms such as the FN SCAR, CZ Bren, Bushmaster ACR, Beretta ARX100, and Daewoo K1, the platform has seen a recent uptick in interest and new designs from various manufacturers: Brownells developed the BRN-180, a modernized AR-180 and, most famously, the Sig Sauer MCX. CMMG, a Missouri manufacturer making its mark in AR accessories and parts, released a new upper receiver system for their MK4 AR-15s which featured a new internal recoil system that eliminates the need for a standard AR buffer tube, making the platform capable of becoming more compact, whether by folding the stocks or removing them completely. This Dissent upper receiver actually still utilizes a direct gas impingement system, like a standard AR-15, so it's not truly an AR-18 derivative (gas piston). The Dissent is compatible with standard AR-15 lower receivers and lower parts as well. As configured, this MK4 Dissent is considered a 'pistol,' by ATF regulations. This firearm is chambered in .300 AAC Blackout (.300BLK), an excellent choice for a short-barreled PDW-style weapon, finished in Sniper Grey Cerakote. The barrel measures in at 6 ½" with a 1:7 twist rate, good for stabilizing a wider range of bullet weights in the .300BLK caliber. The pistol includes a linear compensator muzzle device already attached to the 5/8x24 threaded barrel. The rear of the receiver features a picatinny rail at the endplate for attaching various braces (or stocks, should one go through the ATF's short-barreled rifle [SBR] process). The CMMG Dissent includes a host of user-friendly upgrades: the charging handle can be switched to either the left or right side, safety is ambidextrous and can be configured for 60- or 90-degree throws, the AR-style bolt catch/release is oversized for easier access or use with gloves, and the pistol comes with a Triggertech Diamond adjustable single-stage trigger with flat face trigger shoe.
