Description:
This is a Swiss Model 1842 Pioneers Sawtooth short sword marked "Solingen" with the Swiss Canton of Friebourg crest overstamped on the Ricasso and numbered "104" on the crossguard. This is a rugged neoclassical 'Gladius' style sword. It measures 25 ¼" overall with a 19 1/2" blade with a sharp sawtooth edge that is in near excellent condition, mostly bright with carbon staining and some isolated areas of pitting. The leather washer is intact with a brass handle and pommel having a 4" guard. It comes in a flat tipped and throated brass and leather body scabbard with dry but intact leather that retains a about a third of the original finish. A scarce Swiss sword.
