BISHOP COMBINATION Double Barrel RIFLE .32-SHOTGUN .52 UNION COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Made SIDE x SIDE Here we present an antique A. D. Bishop Percussion Rifle & Shotgun Combination Gun made circa the mid-1800s in Center Township, Union County, Pennsylvania. Alexander Bishop (b. January 4, 1832; d. May 15, 1915) started his gunmaking business circa 1850 and was also a farmer in both Union and Cumberland Counties. This double barrel percussion gun is a design that Pennsylvania gun makers seemed to favor during this period marked by westward expansion, hunting, trapping, and frontier living. This rifle beside a smoothbore would have given the user two shots instead of one in a day when most people had to make one count. This would have come in handy when hunting various types of game as well as defending oneself against dangerous game or two-legged predators. The smooth bore would have offered versatility in that either shot, a single ball or conical, or a combination of “buck ‘n’ ball” could be used depending on the circumstances. The barrels measure at .52 caliber on the smoothbore side and .32 caliber on the rifled side. “MOORE” back action locks and “A.D. BISHOP” marked barrels. The overall condition is good. Original finish/patina. The actions are mobile and holding their appropriate cock notches but need new mainsprings. The bores are in very good condition; the rifled bore has strong rifling while the shotgun bore is smooth. The stock shows use and remains solid. Clear maker markings on the barrels. The barrel mounted rear sight was removed in favor of the peep sight. A great piece of Frontier hardware! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 32-1/2 inches. Caliber: .52 Caliber Smoothbore and .32 Caliber Rifle Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
