Description:
A 19th century Barbery Pirate percussion embellished pistol of about .59 cal, 12 1/2" octagon barrel with a dark oxidized smooth bore. The metal surfaces of this interesting pistol have toned to a mottled brown, showing oxidation, oxidation staining, and wear throughout, with remnants of original brown finish visible lightly throughout. The lock is entirely unmarked, and looks like an Enfield 1853 lock, and the barrel shows rudimentary foliate linework motifs which appearro be done over a bkued barrel? The hardwood stock has been inlaid throughout with brass wire rendered in foliate and starburst motifs, a common prectice of the 18th century, as well, with the majority showing to green due to verdigris buildup and standing proud of the stock as the wood shrinkes . It is equipped with brass furniture which appear roughly finished, having been aggressively cleaned, and allowing for almost no surface with sheen, and the ramrod channel shows a small check forming at the tip and no ramrod is present. The hammer holds at full cock and the trigger functions as it should, while the nipple itself has oxidized and may not allow for ignition, though the decorative and remedial nature of this arm should discourage any thoughts of firing, forx reasons of safety.. An odd and interesting percussion pistol, frpo long ago possibly a Barbery pirate Mediterraean origin.
