Today we know that Liege is a city in Belgium, perhaps most famous for its centuries of arms manufacture; but at this time, Belgium was not yet independent and was a parcel of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until recognized in 1839. Revolution and the push for independence began in earnest in 1830. This pistol features a large .69 caliber bore, typical of a military small arm of the period. The pommel is a flat one with a lanyard ring. The top of the barrel is marked “Belgium”. No provision for a ramrod was made as the user carried one secured to his belt. This would have been one of the last large, smooth bore flintlock pistols to be made for official service before pistols in the percussion firing system and then shortly after cartridge firearms were introduced and adopted. The overall condition is good. The action is strong. This example is a well done re-conversion. Bright and smooth bore, but it has been cleaned. Plum, refinished patina. A repaired chip is present just in front of the lock. Overall, solid wood throughout. Markings are legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
