Description: Antique 1873 Winchester. This is a pretty decent ole 1873. Has the standard 24”octagon barrel. It is in the best shooting caliber 38-40. The S/N is 216255 and was made in 1886. It has the average bore that shows some light pitting and wear but no big craters, rings or bulges. It still shoots very well with my cast bullet sized .402 over 7 grains of Hodgdon Universal. I have never had a 38-40 that would not shoot very well even with less than perfect bores. That is why I lover this caliber. The mechanics are excellent.. It feeds, fires and ejects and the action is butter smooth with no binding or hangups. No bulges cases and no backed out primers. The safety and full cock notches are both perfect and positive and in the right places. The lever and carrier springs are strong with no lever droop. The gun is basically a medium to dark brown patina. All the screw heads are nice and sharp with no burred up slots. It has an original 1873 dust cover but not original to this gun. This gun came in with a reproduction cover and I installed an original that I had in my parts collection. The closest match in color that I had.. The reproduction cover will be included with the gun as I have no use for these parts. I think they are about $80 or more.. The dust cover is still tight and retracts perfectly with the lever throw. I did use the repro. dust cover stop and screw. The wood is really nice. The forearms has no splits or cracks and fits tight and proud with just a little under sizing at the front of the receiver on the bottom from carry and saddle wear. Has a few light dings form honest use and a very minor gouge on the left rear that you can see in the photos. The butt stock fits tight and proud to the receiver and fits tight and even with the butt plate and both tangs. No splits or cracks and just shows honest minor dings. Still has great color and some nice grain pattern. Really pretty wood and has never been sanded on or messed with. All the markings are strong even the 38 cal markings on the bottom of the brass carrier. It has the original front and rear sights. This is a nice ole 73 that shows honest used but never abused.. Nice entry grade collector and a great shooter at a very reasonable price. $60 insured mail and packed very secure. Call 765-728-8049 for more photos or any questions..
