Description:
Antique REMINGTON M1889 Side x Side DOUBLE BARREL 10 Gauge HAMMER Shotgun

WATERFOWL Hunting/Sporting Gun from the Late 1800s

Here we present an antique Remington Model 1889 Hammer Shotgun, manufactured in 1898 in Ilion, New York. One of the nicest late 19th century firearms assembled by the Ilion, New York factory was the New Model 1889 side-by-side shotgun, with its twin, curved “C” shaped hammers. This was the last of Remington’s exposed-hammer doubles, a series that started with the Model 1873 Whitmore “Hammer Lifter” that utilized a European-style, tang-mounted lever to open the breech and concluded with the Model 1889. Though this shotgun isn’t the rarest, it remains a classic example of late-Victorian American sporting shotguns.

In 1888, E. Remington & Sons went bankrupt, and, after being purchased by firearm entrepreneur Marcus Hartley and partners, the Model 1889 was one of the first guns to bear the newly reorganized Remington Arms Co. stamp. A total of 134,200 of these popular shotguns were produced between 1888 and 1910.
Variants of the M1889, including a sawed-off version, are available in the “Call of Juarez” video game series. It was a western-themed first-person shooter released around 2006. The games are set in the rugged landscapes of Texas and Juarez, Mexico, during the year 1884. At the heart of the story is seventeen-year-old ‘Billy Candle,’ fleeing from an adversarial family member. The game immerses you in the gritty, lawless world of the Old West, filled with danger, loyalty, and the fight for survival.

The overall condition is nearing fine. Original Damascus barrel pattern with traces of original finish and some case colors on the lock. The smoothbores are semi-bright with light pitting toward the breech. The stock is fine with minimal handling wear and defined checkering. A small stable split lays at the left of the trigger guard tang. Barrels and receiver numbers match. Markings legible. Strong action.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
