Easy Takedown 3rd Version Rifle in .22 Short Rimfire
Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle chambered in .22 Short Rimfire, manufactured in early 1919 in New Haven, Connecticut. In the late 1880s, Winchester tasked John Moses Browning with developing a replacement for the Model 1873 rifle, which lacked popularity in rimfire form. On June 26, 1888, a patent was issued to John and Matthew Browning for the new design, leading to the creation of the second successful repeating slide-action .22 rifle, shortly after the Colt Lightning.
The Model 1890 became Winchester’s most successful rimfire repeating rifle, with around 775,000 produced from 1890 to 1932. Known as the “gallery gun,” it was widely used in shooting galleries for many years.
The overall condition is near fine. Original and smooth plum patina. Excellent action. The wood is in good condition with minimal dings and scratches. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Legible markings. Numbers match. The furniture is very fine.
