Description:
NEW YORK Antique J.H. RECTOR Half-Stock Percussion TARGET/SPORTING Rifle

Made Circa the 1850s with BULLET STARTER Included

Here we present an antique J.H. Rector Half Stock Percussion Target/Sporting Rifle, made circa the 1850s by John H. Rector. John Rector was a local gunsmith in Syracuse, New York who produced high quality firearms from the 1830’s through the 1860’s. Rector’s specialty was heavy percussion target rifles and somewhat lighter plains rifles for westward expansion. A historical directory from 1850 shows that his gun making business was located on Water Street in Syracuse. This is a very nice target rifle from a well-known New York State gun maker!

This rifle is equipped with a stout part octagonal barrel in .50 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. This rifle was manufactured in the mid-to-late 19th Century.

The overall condition is good. Brown, smooth barrel patina. Shiny bright, strongly rifled bore. Some repaired wood around the lock and the checkering has softened. German silver escutcheons. The hammer does not hold in the cock position, and the trigger requires manual reset. One of the barrel wedges is missing. Drilled and tapped barrel tang. Clear markings.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 33 inches.

Caliber: .50 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
