Description:
This is a wonderful and iconic shotgun that needs a new home. Built in the earliest years of the Sterlingworth's production line, this rock solid 12ga American SxS features the earliest hinge pin design, which closely resembles that of a Parker. In fact, there were copyright disputes regarding the hinge pin appearance, and the design only existed for a short period of time. This information can all be found in the McIntosh book on Fox
This shotgun is wonderful shooter. It has nice patina on the barrels, and I'd say all of the finish on the receiver has worn. There are numerous small marks on the receiver, but this gun's lock up is TIGHT! It snaps the lever over with authority, and is tight and on face.
The stock has freshly re-cut checkering, as does the forearm, fabulously done at Orvis, along with a Silvers pad, which was a factory option. It's so well done, it doesn't scream "restored". The stocks are a nice dark walnut, and could be completely refinished, or enjoyed as they are at the moment. There was a repaired chip on the LH side of the wrist, as pictured. I am more than happy to provide additional photos if requested. LOP is 14". This could easily be lengthened with a spacer or pad. Chambers are 2-3/4", chokes M/F. Bores show minor freckling in one or two spots, but generally good condition. I will include the invoice from Orvis, detailing all work done to it as well.
This is a perfect gun to use and enjoy without guilt. Ideal for crow hunting, turkey hunting, or waterfowl with non-tox loads, and also nimble enough to tote around the prairie for pheasant, it's an iconic American double.
