32716-ORIGINAL ORNATE GERMAN WHEELOCK PETRONEL PISTOL CIRCA 1580-1590’S. 20” o/a with 13” round unsigned .60 cal. rifled barrel. Very ornate petronel form walnut stock inlaid with floral and game scene engraved bone inlays overall. Very fine lock with relief engraved “STAG” in a forest setting on plate and a “PARTRIDGE” engraved in relief on hammer. Wood ramrod with bone tip. Iron trigger guard and iron petronel butt plate. All original and in perfect working. Dark bore with shallow worn rifling. Stock inlays appear all original with no replacements. Two small sections of the strip inlay on underside of grip missing easily restored. Metal with medium grey patina. Original petronel form Wheelock pistols are very scarce and seldom seen. Very few examples known. $16,500.
