32515- SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1795 TYPE III PERCUSSION CONVERSION MUSKET DATED 1810. 44” smoothbore .69 caliber barrel converted in the 1850’s-early 60’s prior to the Civil War with many used in the War particularly in the south where there were many still in state armories. All original with nice metal patina and the original lightly worn finish on the wood. Tiny old repaired hairline a tang. Excellent markings. Lock with beautiful crisp “US/EAGLE/SPRINGFIELD” and 1810 date. Butt plate tang date 1811. Barrel with Ordnance “P/EAGLE HEAD/V” proofs. Center breech stamped “US”. Stock with old regiment number brand “XL.I”. Working order and excellent bore. Original ramrod. $1750.
