Description:
This is a Krag bayonet stamped US on the obverse of the Ricasso and dated 1896 on the reverse. It measures 16 1/4 inches overall with an 11 5/8 inch fullered blade which remains armory bright with some light scratches and dried grease, unsharpened. The crossguard and pommel are mostly bright with spots of plum-brown. The wood grips remain solid and near excellent condition with light surface use marks. It comes in an early type steel scabbard which rates excellent showing virtually all of the original finish, the plain narrow belt hook has the pinned hinge. An excellent example of an early and scarce 1896 Krag bayonet.
