A reasonably rare gun that was obsolete before it saw much use. The Chassepot pin fire proved ineffective in the Franco Prussian war. Things being how they were the French would not go the the Germans for a Mauser-Norris conversion. To the best of my knowledge the gun uses a 11x59 Gras cartridge. It was converted by Kynoch of Birmingham. I understand the firing pin is a problem with these. This one is fine and has been adjusted by a smith. The gun also has a very good bore.
