32862 SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR & BOXER REBELLION WINCHESTER-LEE STRAIGHT PULL U.S. NAVY MODEL 1895 USN RIFLE. 6mm Lee Navy cal. Serial numbered 8684 manufacture date 1897 within 200 or so numbers of 13 of the 34 recovered from the USS Maine sunk in Havana Harbor that started the Span-Am war. Receiver stamped “U.S.N./ANCHOR/8684/-N.C.T.-“. Consecutively numbered to a National Archives documented rifle on the Maine sister ship the USS Philadelphia which served in the Pacific during both the Span-Am War, Philippine Insurrection and Boxer Rebellion (SPRINGFIELD RESEARCH SERVICE VOL.3 PAGE 192). All issued to Sea Service Marines aboard those ships. Superb excellent plus example all matching and correct with nearly all the original blue and stock finish along with correct star/triangle stamps on wood where they should be(also star stamp on triggergiard and "4". Bright near mint bore. Best one we have had or seen. $5300.
