32563- INDO-ARAB SILVER MOUNTED MATCHLOCK MUSKET JEZAIL CIRCA LATE 1700’S. 56” o/a with 42” smoothbore .65 caliber sighted barrel with two maker cartouches at center breech. Profuse silver inlays and large engraved barrel bands. Ornate stock inlays of type made in Mysore, Southern India during the rule of the Islamic ruler Tipu-Sultan known as the Tiger of Mysore in the late 1700’s. Large leather covered wood butt cap characteristic of these early Islamic arms. See page 181 of Robert Elgood’s book “FIREARMS OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD” very similar decorated muskets. With normal wear for one of these heavily used 250 year old guns . Lock still in working order. $1550.
