Description: Guns Listing ID: 540427 NSN. Made circa 1855. 44 caliber with a 32" barrel. This is a mottled brown patina. The barrel is marked “~ Patent Arms M’g. Co Paterson N. J. Colt’s Pt~" This is off a second model rifle that was used to make this half stock Percussion rifle. According to R.L. Wilson the barrel on this rifle was likely sold in 1842 in Paterson‚s Colt factory at the public held after the bankruptcy of the Patent Arms Mfg. Co. The purchaser was Samuel Colt‚s nemesis, and former business associate, John Elhers. This is the only example known to Wilson to have been utilized in a single shot sporting rifle of the period.
