Colt SAA Artillery, .45 lc. Made in 1881 and shipped on October 17, 1881 to the U.S. Government Inspector…see attached Colt factory letter.
This is a legitimate US Artillery model with a 5 ½” barrel and a single line Colt address indicating that it was probably shipped with a 7 1/2” barrel and subsequently shortened.
The serial number 71264 appears in all places that it should. The abbreviated serial number of 1264 is on the bottom of the barrel and on the cylinder
The number 343 appears on the bottom of the frame, under the trigger guard and on the loading gate.
Correct DFC (David F Clark) inspector stamps are correct as is the US stamp on the left side of the frame.
What is NOT correct is the replacement bullseye ejector rod and spring AND possibly the one-piece walnut grips. There are no signs of inspector cartouche marks on either side of the grips!
Condition is Antique fair to good. Mechanically it needs a SAA gunsmith to work on the timing and engagement. Bore is good to very good.
